Project Summary

Southside Main Street is excited to announce the second annual Places, Spaces, Chairs Event in the hip new SoMa district of Little Rock. This temporary public art exhibit will bring people and interest to South Main Street and the surrounding neighborhood between I-630 and Roosevelt. As the second annual art event sponsored by Southside Main Street, it will again embody our dedication to enhancing economic development and quality of life for the citizens of the neighborhood, while also promoting it as the diverse and creative center of Little Rock. We are inviting a select group of artists to rethink the role of the street side bench or chair in the pedestrian experience. We challenge artists to combine sculpture with the idea of the chair as an object, to create a large scale public art exhibit that reflects the eclectic SoMa neighborhood experience. Each artist chosen to participate will be sponsored by a local business that will provide money to build the “chair”. The first event was great success and the second year was even better!
